About me

David Bourget

I’m a philosopher working on consciousness and meaning, and building tools for research and writing.

I’m an associate professor of philosophy at Western University and director of the Centre for Digital Philosophy. My research explores the role of consciousness in thought, understanding, and intentionality.

I’m also co-founder, executive director, and tech lead at the PhilPapers Foundation, and the creator of MATCHA, a writing environment that brings research, composition, and evidence of authorship together.

Introducing MATCHA

A project I created to support human authorship. It’s also my favourite word processor, with features such as direct citation insertion.

I was born and raised in Québec City. I received my BSc in computer science from Université Laval in 2002, and my PhD in philosophy from the Australian National University in 2010, under the supervision of David Chalmers.

My work brings these two backgrounds together: philosophical questions about the mind, and practical tools that help people do philosophy.
